UP

The UP Retreat
A Time of Spiritual Refreshing and Renewal led by Andy Park

Movie clips from the movie UP stimulate thought and evoke emotions about some of the deep issues of life:  Loving one another, friendship, loyalty, rescuing people in need, dealing with grief and disappointment, living with eternal purpose, and the adventure of faith.

Though it’s not a Christian movie, UP is packed with important life messages, and also adds humor to an otherwise intensely spiritual time. Together.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Powerful times of unplugged, acoustic worship… the sound of many voices  filling the room.  (Reminds me of my Vineyard home group in my college days – wonderful worship times and lots of fun).  Worship can be co-led by a few leaders, add percussion and...

Freedom in the Holy Spirit
Prayers of thanksgiving and intercession rising up from around the room
Hearing from God and ministering to one another
Meditating on scripture and talking in small groups and the large group about  how these truths touch our lives

TEACHING & DISCUSSION:

Short times of teaching mixed with “Socratic” questioning method – which is getting to the truth of things and opening up issues and problems by asking questions of the whole group.

“The teaching was practical and challenging but what made it so powerful was the flowing of the Holy Spirit throughout the weekend. What was obvious was that we are not just going through a predetermined set of material but we were on an adventure with the Holy Spirit and no one, including you, was sure where we would end up. It was a powerful combination of good preparation (the devotionals that were sent beforehand were great) and being open to doing what the Father is doing in the moment.”
Bill Elander, pastor of New Haven Vineyard

SPECIFICS OF THE RETREAT...

Suggested Time Frame:  Friday night 7 to 10 pm, and Saturday 10 am to 5 pm

Preferred Location:
A large living room or a small church facility room; dynamic of being in a home is a big plus:  casual, enhances the relational and fun aspect, small enough for voices to really fill the space.  A comfortable and aesthetically pleasing environment will help set the tone for an inspiring and enjoyable time together.

Who can participate:  This is flexible.  The retreat can be for a local church leadership team and/or worship team, or all the core members of the church.  In some cases, worship teams and/or leaders from different local churches could combine for the retreat.

Goals:  Spiritual refreshing and renewal, soaking in God’s presence and Word, hearing from God. Openness to God and one another, leading to strengthened and deepened relationships.

Andy’s role:
To serve as teacher - sharing some of his “life messages”, facilitating discussions, ministry times and worship times.
